Ranked with ESA Card first, then the companies that sell what Wellness Wag sells, then the rest, each group by the lowest price its own site publishes. Prices are the lowest the company prints for what it mainly sells; add-ons and renewals are on its own pages.

ESA Card is first because of what the kit is: a wallet ID card, a certificate and a number anyone can verify, emailed in about 3 minutes, with one short form, no appointment and a 30-day money-back guarantee on the registration.

Which Wellness Wag alternative is cheapest?

ESA Pet publishes the lowest starting price among Wellness Wag's alternatives that sell ESA letters: $139, against $89 at Wellness Wag.

  • ESA Card$39$59$79$99ID card and certificate
  • USA Service Dogsfrom $49ID card and certificate
  • US Service Animalsfrom $89.99ID card and certificate
  • ESA Petfrom $139Letter from a licensed clinician

ESA Card's kit is $39$59$79$99, for your pet's ID card and certificate rather than a letter.

Among the companies that sell ID card kits, USA Service Dogs starts lowest, from $49.

American Service Pets shows its price after its quiz and a name, email and zip form.

Renewals, add-ons and shipping change a total, so read the page named beside each price before you compare.

Which Wellness Wag alternative is best if you already have an ESA letter?

ESA Card is the best fit if you already have an ESA letter, because the kit adds the everyday pieces for $39$59$79$99: a wallet ID card with your pet's photo, a certificate and a registration number anyone can check.

Your ESA letter

Written by a licensed clinician who has evaluated you. The document for your lease file.

Your ESA Card

Your pet's photo, a certificate and a registration number anyone can look up. The everyday one.

Your letter stays the document you give a landlord, whether it came from Wellness Wag or from anyone else. The ESA Card kit is the everyday one: it goes on your phone and your wall, and it is emailed in about 3 minutes.

The kit is a convenience item and not a legal registration, and it does not stand in for the letter. Many owners carry both.

What if you need an ESA letter and not an ID card?

An ESA letter has to come from a licensed clinician who has evaluated you, so you need your own provider or one of the letter services in the table above.

The other letter services that publish a price start at $139 (ESA Pet) and run up to $167.50 (Support Pets) for their cheapest letter.

Our guide to what an ESA letter is and how to get one walks through the steps, and the free sample ESA letter shows what a landlord expects to see.

In Florida, New Jersey and New York, ESA Card can also book a video call with an independent therapist licensed in your state: $120 for the call, and a signed letter if the therapist finds you eligible.

What should you check before you switch from Wellness Wag?

Before you switch from Wellness Wag, check what you bought, when the price shows, what a renewal costs, how refunds work and how long delivery takes.

  • What you bought. Wellness Wag sells ESA letters written by a licensed clinician after an online consultation. An ID card and certificate is a different product, and many owners carry both.
  • When the price shows. Wellness Wag shows its price on its public pricing page, before any form. ESA Card shows its price before you start.
  • What a renewal costs. Ask when it ends and what it costs to renew.
  • How refunds work. Wellness Wag's refund rule, in short: not after the letter is issued; requests in writing within 7 days. ESA Card refunds the registration within 30 days, no questions asked.
  • How long it takes. Wellness Wag's timing, as it states it: within 24 hours of approval, up to 30 days in 5 states. ESA Card emails the kit in about 3 minutes.
